LICIL's Book Review

As part of our ongoing initiative to get the word out about the LICIL Living Library, monthly book reviews will be a regular feature on LICIL.net.  Staff members and consumers are encouraged to participate.

Please visit the LICIL Living Library during regular hours of operation [Thursdays & Fridays, 1 to 4 p.m.] to choose a book you would like to review.  Before you begin writing, please inform Therése Brzezinski regarding your selection.  This will prevent any duplication of articles.

All book review submissions should be created in MS Word and follow the format outlined below.

TITLE

AUTHOR

PUBLISHER

GENRE  (ie; novel, biography, collection of short stories, etc…)

Write approximately 150 to 250 words (double-spaced), keeping in mind that the goal is to entice readers to check out the book you are reviewing.

Try to provide more than basic plot summary.  Do this by addressing some of the following questions:
- What is the basic idea or theme that the author emphasizes throughout the writing?
- What strikes you about the book?  A character?  Something about the writing style?  Use of history, facts, illustrations?
- What issue around disability does the book address and why would it interest readers?
- What audiences would find this work helpful and interesting:  professionals, parents, students, children, a variety of readers…?
- Is the focus on facts, fun, awareness, or a combination of elements?
- Has the book been released as a popular film or documentary?  Is the DVD available in the LICIL Living Library?

Any questions or ideas about writing your book review should be directed to Therése Brzezinski at 516-796-0144.  Completed reviews should be e-mailed to
thereseA@licil.com and must include a phone number where you can be reached during the day.

Thank you for your interest in this important effort to inform the public about the rich selection of materials offered by the LICIL Living Library.  Your submissions are greatly appreciated.
