DRIVE Mission Statement

Disabled Rights Initiative for Voter Empowerment (DRIVE) is a civic group made up of persons with disabilities united for the common goal to ensure that our collective voice is heard by candidates for public office, political representatives, and other government officials. We aim to make known to those who speak for our communities the concerns and issues important to voters with disabilities, and pledge to actively use our voting power to hold them accountable for bringing disability issues to the political forefront.

If you would like to become a member of DRIVE please fill out the

LICIL needs you to help DRIVE.

On Election Day, November 6th, 2007, DRIVE will be watching the 12 accessible voting sites in Nassau County. DRIVE will try to interview each person who uses the new accessible voting machines. Two of us will be at each polling site where those accessible voting machines will be located. Each site is accessible. We need volunteers to do a 3-hour shift. You can be an observer or a surveyor or both. It does not matter if you are disabled or not. If you want to join us, call LICIL at 516-796-0144. Leave a message for Pat Moore. If you volunteer, DRIVE will give you all the material you need to observe or do the survey.  If you volunteer, DRIVE will show you what you need to do on Election Day. It’s easy and fun. DRIVE intends to do a report with CIDNY of Manhattan and give that report to the Board of Elections and meet with the Board to help make all future elections even more accessible to people with disabilities. So please help. Join us. DRIVE hopes you’ll vote at the new accessible voting machine WHETHER OR NOT you are disabled. Voting at the new accessible machines is not just for people with disabilities! And if you use one, which we hope you will, we might even interview you. So call LICIL today and leave a message for Pat Moore. We need YOU! Finally, please, please, please pass this on to all your friends! Ask them to pass it on to their friends. This is an important time in all of our lives. Let’s ALL vote at the accessible voting machines on November 6th, 2007---and in the future. The 12 sites will be announced very soon. So volunteer now and call Ms. Moore TODAY! 516-796-0144
